In one of the occupied European cities, the commandant of the garrison gathers a troupe of circus performers. Coming from different countries, they are in the humiliating position of people forced to serve their enslavers. Many of them, recruited from camps and workhouses, were quite content with their lot. Only after a chain of subsequent events, the artists raise an uprising. Unarmed people are not able to resist the arrived guards. They die, but at the cost of their lives they regain their lost human dignity....

A group of friends (Zach, Ryan, Clay, and Justin) are hanging out in their friend Jake's garage as the summer after their high school graduation comes to a close. It dawns on them that their friend Daulton, upon his departure for college, will most likely never come back to visit them, seeing as their town of Peak Valley is basically a dead end. Knowing that this could be their last week together with him, they take it upon themselves to persuade him to change his mind and stay. With the help of some other local kids like Stan, the guy who can get you anything, RJ, the reigning King of the Hill champion, Johnny, the guy who throws the best parties, and Baker, the crazy old Vietnam veteran that lives in the woods, they might just convince Daulton to stay....

The film consists of a series of tightly interlinked vignettes, the most sustained of which details the story of a man and a woman who are passionately in love. Their attempts to consummate their passion are constantly thwarted, by their families, by the Church and bourgeois society in general....

She sees a child's figure by the table eating some rice crackers just before it slips into the wardrobe, but the wardroebe appears to be empty... Thus her life with six spirit children begins. Nothingness, this absence, this lack of something, is a major force in Karabelas’ film. It’s disorienting, just like the sound which the director uses carefully, subtly even, in order to reinforce the voice over, written by his friend Christos Makridimitris. The almost nihilist voice-over accompanies the lonely journey of a young man through fields, through ruinous structures, along rivers. One wonders whether the voice over is actually the voice in the young, unnamed protagonist’s mind....
