Two teams go head to head as they sing, shout and delve deep into the recesses of their collective minds to help earn their team an extremely inglorious victory....

Ciao Darwin is a variety game show format from Italy sold under licence to several countries, including Romania, Hungary, Poland, Serbia, Canada, USA, China and Greece. There are two competing teams of about 50 people each, usually made up of people who fit certain opposing stereotypes. In each game two members of the audience are selected at random, one from each team, indicated by a light in front of them which remains illuminated when all the other team members' lights have gone off. The games involve contestants competing in acts of bravery, style and talent, some of which are designed to humiliate the contestants, especially an assault course which was introduced with the Italian version in 2010, and the Finale which is a water tank game....

Saber y ganar, the cultural quiz show of "La 2" hosted by Jordi Hurtado, has celebrated sixteen years on the air, thus becoming the daily program with a longer running time in the history of Spanish television. During the show's thirty-minute duration three contestants compete in different tests where they have to answer trivia-like questions, putting their mental, reasoning and memory abilities to the test. Most of the questions have a moderate level of difficulty and are spread over six different games: "Cada sabio con su tema", where each contestant answer questions about a given topic of their choice; "La pregunta caliente", where contestants must answer random questions; "El duelo", where two contestants answer questions about a topic that changes daily; "La parte por el todo", where the contestants must figure out what an image, piece of text or piece of music belong to; "La calculadora humana", where the contestant with the second highest score must answer fifteen basic arithmetic operations in 50 seconds in order to keep his/her earnings for the day; and finally "El reto", where the contestant with the least score has to figure out seven words from their root and definition in order to remain in the game. If the contestant loses the "El Reto", a new individual will be chosen to replace him/her the next episode....

Mastermind is a British quiz show, well known for its challenging questions, intimidating setting and air of seriousness. Devised by Bill Wright, the basic format of Mastermind has never changed — four and in later contests five contestants face two rounds, one on a specialised subject of the contestant's choice, the other a general knowledge round. Wright drew inspiration from his experiences of being interrogated by the Gestapo during World War II. The atmosphere is helped by Mastermind's famously ominous theme music, "Approaching Menace" by the British composer Neil Richardson. The quiz programme originated and was recorded in Manchester at studios such as New Broadcasting House and Granada Studios, before permanently moving to MediaCityUK in 2011....

Twenty One is an American game show which aired in the late 1950s. While it included the most popular contestant of the quiz show era, it became notorious for being a rigged quiz show which nearly caused the demise of the entire genre in the wake of United States Senate investigations. The 1994 movie Quiz Show is based on these events. A new version aired in 2000 with Maury Povich hosting, lasting about five months on NBC....

The Brain Game is a weekly quiz bowl show for high school students that airs on NBC-affiliate WTHR-13 in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is currently broadcast at 7 pm on Saturdays, and the host is WTHR lead meteorologist Chris Wright. It is sponsored by Westfield Insurance, which also sponsors four other high school quiz shows. The show is filmed at the WTHR studios on Meridian Street in Indianapolis. Since 2008 Brain Game has been filmed in HD. Chris Wright has hosted the Brain Game since 2000, and Bob Gregory did so for 28 years from the show's start in 1972 until 2000. Until 2008 it was filmed at the Fairbanks Center at Butler University. The Brain Game was nominated for a Regional Emmy in 2001 for best On Camera Talent - Non News, in 2003 for best Children/Youth Program - Regularly Scheduled, in 2004 for best Children/Youth Program - Regularly Scheduled, and in 2007 for best Children/Youth Program....

You Bet Your Life is an American quiz show that aired on both radio and television. The original and best-known version was hosted by Groucho Marx of the Marx Brothers, with announcer and assistant George Fenneman. The show debuted on ABC Radio in October 1947, then moved to CBS Radio in September 1949 before making the transition to NBC-TV in October 1950. Because of its simple format, it was possible to broadcast the show simultaneously on the radio and on television. In 1960, the show was renamed The Groucho Show and ran a further year. Most episodes are in the public domain. The play of the game, however, was secondary to the interplay between Groucho, the contestants, and occasionally Fenneman. The program was rerun into the 1970s, and later in syndication as The Best of Groucho. As such, it was the first game show to have its reruns syndicated....

Players working as a team complete a series of difficult physical and psychological tests, each worth a set amount of money. One of the players, however, is a "Mole" or saboteur, whose goal is to foil the efforts of the other players without revealing his or her identity. At the end of each episode, the group is given a quiz on The Mole's identity. The player who knows the least information about The Mole is then immediately sent home. In the final episode, The Mole is revealed and the one remaining player wins the jackpot, up to $1,000,000....

Milionář was a Czech game show based on the original British format of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. The show was hosted by Roman Šmucler. The main goal of the game was to win 2 millions Czech korunas by answering 15 multiple-choice questions correctly. There were 4 lifelines - fifty fifty, phone a friend, ask the audience and switch the question. The game show was shown on the Czech TV station Prima TV. When a contestant got the fifth question correct, he left with at least 10,000 CZK. When a contestant got the tenth question correct, he left with at least 80,000 CZK. Nobody on this version of the show won the top prize. Earlier, the game show was called Chcete být milionářem?....

Americana is a weekly game show which ran on NBC from December 8, 1947 to July 4, 1949. The series was originally hosted by literary critic John Mason Brown and produced by Martin Stone Productions with NBC Television. Each week's show was sponsored by Encyclopedia Americana. The 30-minute show aired Mondays at 8:10pm ET in the 1947-48 television season, and Mondays at 8:30pm ET in the 1948-49 season....

Mastermind Australia is the long awaited return of the Mastermind franchise to Australian television after Huw Evans hosted the series over thirty-five years ago. With Jennifer Byrne as host (who I remember winning Celebrity Sale of the Century many years ago and is known for being a smart cookie) the programme - with its compliance with the general format of the show - couldn't fail. It was picked up in 2020 for a further series of 85 episodes. It's good value for SBS Australia, as it's 17 weeks of television produced relatively cheaply and with 100% Australian content (ignoring the licencing fee). It runs at Prime Time and leads into the SBS World News. The programme itself was devised in 1972 by Creator Bill Wright, drawing on his experiences as a prisoner of war in Germany during World War II. For the nervous twitching, toe-tapping, butterflies-in-the-stomach contestants, these are possibly the four most terrifying words on television: “Your time starts now”. With iconic quiz show Mastermind back on Australian television, there’s no predicting who will shine, and who will crumble under the pressure of being in THAT black seat, under the spotlight, facing a rapid gunfire of questions from host Jennifer Byrne. Each of the 4 players will be tested in 2 rounds. The first is 2 minutes on their specialist subject, while the second is 90 seconds of general knowledge. At the end of the week on Friday the four episode winners from the week have to forego their specialist subjet and take on the Australiana round, and the usual General Knowledge section with one further contestant proceeding closer to a Grand Final. It doesn’t matter how well you know your special subject, or how good your general knowledge is, nerves can get the better of you. It’s called the “black chair syndrome”....
